Bio: Mark McFarland - Sculptor

Mark was born in California. He grew up in Arizona, moving to Alaska where he schooled in rock and ivory carving. His aquatic life forms are a product of his first hand involvement while in Alaska. Each piece is unique in its design and beauty, individualizing nature's subjects. The soapstone rock used can only be found in northern Washington State. Mark personally mines the rock; hand picking each piece for quality and character. His ivory sculptures are also a product of the Alaska wilderness, found along the ocean shore from washed-up walrus tusk and whalebone. Each piece is a result of many hours of carving, buffing and polishing, producing its beauty and personality.
